Passed down without words
Some of the most meaningful ways we care for each other are the ones passed down without words.
For Sangyay, gua sha was one of the quiet ways her aunt — the woman who raised her — showed her love. Through long upstate New York winters, her aunt would reach for a buffalo horn, a box of oils and herbs, and sometimes crushed fresh ginger. She was a woman of very few words. Those sessions were their time together.
Years later, when Sangyay shared body gua sha online, people wrote to her from Indonesia, Vietnam and far beyond — about mothers and grandmothers, porcelain spoons, coins, even a mason jar lid. Different names, different tools, each its own tradition. The same feeling behind them.
This oil is our modern take on that box of oils, herbs and ginger. Use it on yourself, or share five quiet minutes with someone you love.
“Gua sha was one of the ways my aunt showed me love. The practice has stayed the same, but what it means to me has grown.” — Sangyay

Gua sha works with the right oil underneath it
Body gua sha needs slip that lasts for ten minutes of long strokes. Most oils in your bathroom were made for something else.
Coconut oil
Sinks in within a minute or two, so the tool starts to skip and catch.
Body lotion
Made to absorb, not to glide. It drags on skin as you work.
Body Gua Sha Oil
A four-oil base for long, even glide, plus warming botanicals like ginger and artemisia that you feel as soon as it touches skin.
What to expect
Results build with the ritual
Tonight
Warmth as the oil goes on. Afterwards your body feels lighter and looser, and skin looks smooth and glowing.
After a few evenings
The strokes become second nature. Ten minutes starts to feel like the part of the day you look forward to.
Weeks 4–6
With consistent ritual, a firmer, more sculpted look builds on legs, arms and waist.
Individual experiences vary.

Angelica Root

A revered herb traditionally used to promote circulation and relieve stagnation, Angelica Root helps relax muscle tension, ease fatigue, and enhance skin’s natural radiance. Often used in body rituals to support flow and balance, it’s especially valued for its ability to nurture the skin while grounding the senses.
Neroli

Extracted from orange blossoms, Neroli is cherished for its delicate floral aroma and skin-renewing properties. It helps boost hydration, soften the skin, and reduce visible signs of stress or fatigue. Emotionally, it has a deep calming effect, making it perfect for enhancing massage rituals with a sense of serenity and self-connection.
Osmanthus

A rare and precious flower native to East Asia, Osmanthus is prized for its sweet, fruity-floral scent and subtle warming character. It brings a uniquely elevated aromatic dimension while also nourishing dry or dull skin. Culturally symbolic of refinement and harmony, Osmanthus offers a beautiful balance of comfort and luxury.
Artemisia argyi

Known in herbal wellness for its cleansing, warming, and calming properties, this traditional plant supports detoxifying massage techniques and can help relieve areas of built-up tension or puffiness. It’s often used in Eastern practices to rebalance qi (energy) and is ideal for deep, therapeutic body work.
Ginger

Warming and energizing, Ginger is a go-to for activating circulation, easing stiffness, and promoting deep muscle relief. Its subtle spiciness brings a cozy, nurturing quality to the massage experience—especially beneficial in colder months or for those with cold, tense areas in the body.
Bergamot FCF

This bright citrus offers a soft, mood-lifting aroma that is both energizing and soothing. The FCF (furanocoumarin-free) version ensures it's safe for daytime use, reducing photosensitivity. Bergamot helps purify and tone the skin, leaving it feeling fresh and revitalized—perfect post-exercise or as part of a daily ritual.
Eucalyptus

Brisk and revitalizing, Eucalyptus helps open the senses, support breathing, and release muscular discomfort. A staple in post-workout recovery and wellness spas, it leaves a crisp, refreshed feeling on the skin.
Grapefruit

Refreshing and clarifying, Grapefruit is a favorite in wellness treatments for its role in supporting lymphatic drainage, invigorating circulation, and promoting skin brightness. Its crisp citrus scent uplifts the mood and enlivens the senses.
Spearmint

Gentler than peppermint but equally refreshing, Spearmint provides a cooling, tension-releasing effect on both skin and mind. It’s especially suited for post-workout muscle care or calming tired legs and shoulders after long days.
Sandalwood

A sacred wood used in spiritual and meditative rituals, Sandalwood brings a soft, creamy warmth to the blend. Known for its ability to balance sebum, deeply hydrate, and calm both skin and mood, it’s a grounding finish that leaves a lasting impression of calm.
Lavender

Known worldwide as a soothing essential, Lavender helps calm both skin and mind. It supports skin regeneration, soothes irritation, and invites relaxation—ideal for winding down after a long day or pairing with evening rituals.
Frankincense

This ancient resin is known to tone and tighten the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and support a deep, restorative calm. Often used in deep tissue massage, Frankincense enhances the experience of inner stillness and outer renewal.

Two women, one ritual
Sha
Founder, Beyond Chi
I've always lived holistically: eating well, working out, seeking balance. After my child, my waist, legs and arms stopped feeling like mine. Body gua sha, done consistently, made everything else work better — my body felt lighter and tighter again. When I saw Sangyay's video, I reached out. I couldn't find a body oil made for gua sha, so we made one.
Sangyay
Co-creator
Gua sha was one of the quiet ways my aunt showed me love. She kept a whole box of preparations: the buffalo horn, a base oil, herbal oils, crushed ginger. Some smelled wonderful; others were so strong I couldn't stand them. The oil we made with Beyond Chi brings me back to that box — a thoughtful, modern take on those memories, without pretending it's the same thing.
Together, we've created a ceremony in a bottle.

Questions, answered
Will gua sha leave red marks?
It can. Gua sha often brings up temporary red or pink marks called “sha,” which usually fade within a few days. You control the pressure: lighter strokes leave little or no marking. More redness doesn’t mean better results. Start gentle and build up.
How soon will I notice a difference?+
Most people feel lighter and looser after the first session. A firmer, more sculpted look builds over 4–6 weeks of using it 2–3 times a week. Everyone’s body is different.
I've never done gua sha. Is it hard?
No. Three steps, five minutes. Follow the steps and short clips above the first few times, and you’ll have the rhythm.
Which size should I get?
50 ml is the easiest way to try the ritual. One dropperful (about 3 ml) is enough for a session, so 50 ml gives you about 16 sessions and 100 ml about 33 — roughly 11–16 weeks at 2–3 sessions a week. While the first 100 kits last, both sizes come with the free tool and pouch.
Do I need a special tool?
A body-sized tool makes it easier. The first 100 kits come with a hand-carved buffalo horn tool — naturally smooth, with edges shaped for legs, arms and back. Facial tools are too small for body work.
I have sensitive skin. Can I use it?
The scent comes from essential oils only — no synthetic fragrance. Essential oils can still irritate some skin, so patch test on your inner arm and wait 24 hours. If you’re pregnant, nursing or have a skin condition, check with your healthcare provider first.
Can I use this on my face too?
You can, but it's formulated specifically for body work.
For face gua sha, try one of our facial oils with our facial tool.
How long does one bottle last?
Depends on frequency and how much you use per session.
Average: 2-3 months with 2-3 sessions per week.
You need less than you think — a little goes a long way with this concentration. About a quarter-sized amount per area.
Cost breakdown:
- One bottle: Limited first-batch pricing (details when you join waitlist)
- Per session cost: Less than $2
- Vs. massage: $200 for 3 days of relief
The ROI is incredible.
When will my order ship?
Orders ship within 3–7 business days. Once your order is on its way, we’ll email you a tracking link. Free U.S. shipping over $50. Questions? Email hello@beyondchi.com.
